Merkel Joins Papal Holocaust Row

Pope Benedict XVI addressing a rally in Nuremberg yesterday.

The German Government has become involved in the row over the readmission of a Holocaust-denier to the Catholic Church.

The row blew up when UnterSturmbahnfuhrer Pope Von Benedict XVI lifted the excommunication of four bishops, one of whom has claimed that no Nazi gas chambers existed.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has suspended the Pontiff's membership of the Hitlerjugend until he clarifies his comments with regard to Bishop Richard Williamson, who recently told Swedish TV: "I believe there were no gas chambers. I think that two to three hundred thousand Jews perished in Nazi concentration camps but none of them by gas chambers."

A spokesman for His Holiness defended the readmittance of Bishop Williamson, saying that it was nice for the Pope to have 'someone around who understands him'.

When asked directly about the issue by this Correspondent, the Pontiff declined to comment, saying that he was far too busy with his current plans to invade Polandbring peace to all men.
